In certain sensory neurons, such as those for touch and warmth, the axons are called afferent nerve fibers and the electrical impulse travels along these from the periphery to the cell body Se hela listan på sciencetrends.com Se hela listan på faculty.washington.edu Unlabeled diagram of a motor neuron (try labeling: axon, dendrite, cell body, myelin, nodes of Ranvier, motor end plate) Find this Pin and more on Human Physiologyby Ms. MacFarlane. The axon is the elongated fiber that extends from the cell body to the terminal endings and transmits the neural signal. The larger the diameter of the axon, the faster it transmits information. Some axons are covered with a fatty substance called myelin that acts as an insulator. The function of the axon is to transmit information to different neurons, muscles and glands.
Besides the three major parts, there is the presence of axon terminal and synapse at the end of the neuron. Bipolar neurons have two processes extending from the cell body (examples: retinal cells, olfactory epithelium cells). Pseudounipolar cells (example: dorsal root ganglion cells). Actually, these cells have 2 axons rather than an axon and dendrite. One axon extends centrally toward the spinal cord, the other axon extends toward the skin or muscle. Synapses are usually found between the fine terminal branches of the axon of one neuron and the dendrites or cell body of another.

The string can be yarn, rope, or flexible wire. Starting with a different colored bead at the tip of the dendrite 2017-09-20 · Every nerve cell has an axon. The short structures that extend from the cell body are called dendrites.
